Its important to use the HI PASS output of whatever sub you use as it cuts away all the low frequencies so the sub takes care of all of them – only the stuff above Hz or so will be sent to your main speakers. Hope this helps, you should have no problem adding a sub EDIT- In response to the above reply; since your system is already active self powered , there is no point buying a passive sub, with an amp. I think it would work fine for you to get an active sub, which almost always has a built in crossover high pass filter So you’re saying that you can use the epa as a single channel set of “powered tops” by feeding your input s via a powered sub. So if you need inputs for more than a single source, you’d need another mixer to feed multiple inputs into the sub and thence to the epa

How To Set Up a Subwoofer or Subwoofers for Home Theater By Chris Boylan Perhaps the most difficult chore in getting the best sound out of a home theater system is getting your subwoofer properly integrated with your main speaker system. This primer covers the basics of subwoofer set-up so you can get the most out of your home theater loudspeaker investment.
So plug your receiver or processor’s subwoofer line output into the subwoofer’s line input RCA type jack , power up the subwoofer and let’s get started.
Dec 01, · There are 2 main types of subwoofers active and passive. There are also 2 ways to hook them up, not all having the ability to do both. This particular active .
I use these stores. I can’t vouch for ads below. One is not enough While just one subwoofer is enough to enjoy movie sound in 5. While low frequencies are less directional, and the direction of a low-frequency sine-wave point-source may be less perceptible, critical to fine music reproduction are low-frequency interchannel phase differences present in true stereo recordings.
When reproduced properly with stereo subwoofers or two full-range speakers , these phase differences are critical to reproducing the sound space of the original concert hall. Critical even to casual listeners is that if you sum the low frequencies of true stereo recordings into mono by using only one subwoofer, low-frequency interchannel phase differences partially or completely cancel each other, reducing or eliminating low-frequency output levels!
Try jamming a stereo bass signal through one mono subwoofer and you lose a lot of hall ambience as well as bass level.

How to hook up a subwoofer to a stereo system Hint: You don’t necessarily need a receiver with subwoofer output jacks. Subs can provide a foundation to the sound that few speakers can muster on their own. So adding a sub is not just about adding more and deeper bass; rather, a properly integrated subwoofer can improve the overall sound of the system.
AV receivers feature bass management to direct the low bass frequencies to the sub and the midrange and treble frequencies to the speakers. The subwoofer is hooked up to the receiver with a single interconnect cable. Stereo receivers, pre-amps, and integrated amplifiers rarely have subwoofer output jacks or offer bass-management options. So instead of using those connections, we’ll use the subwoofer’s speaker-level, aka “high-level,” inputs. Most, but not all, subwoofers have these inputs; they get connected using speaker cables to the same speaker output jacks on your receiver or amplifier that are also hooked up to your speakers.
That means you have to double up the connections on the receiver or amplifier see photo below that illustrates that connection method.

So what will we need to do this? But I doubt any of you guys will be using an amp that big. Walmart sells amplifier kits as do some other stores. The kits tell you how many watts they can handle.
Subwoofers are typically easy to connect, given that there are usually only two cords to deal with: one for power and one for the audio input. You’re far more likely to spend the bulk of time positioning and adjusting a subwoofer for the best performance than actually plugging in a pair of cables.
This review of the JL Audio subwoofer was an opportunity to audition one of the new line of affordable subwoofers that JL Audio designed for the home. These subs are made in the USA and are individually verified and tested at the factory. This subwoofer took a little more effort to set up than other subs I have reviewed in the last few years. Once set up and dialed in, this sub showed its best stuff with cinema material.
Here is a summary of what I found: The bass was deep and powerful, just right for bombastic movie sound tracks. The music listening experience with the e was at times quite enjoyable, particularly with pipe organ and electronically synthesized music. If you are looking for a compact and nice looking sub for your home system, the E-Sub e is worth serious consideration and the very accessible price point makes it an even easier choice.
But they also made a name for themselves with a line of extreme powered subs for the home market. They ranked among the best subwoofers you could get at any price and they have been very well received by the audio press and consumers alike. This wikiHow teaches you how to hook up a surround sound system to your TV. Steps Preparing Your Equipment 1 Examine your available speakers. The way in which you set up the speakers depends on how many you have; the most common setups are 2. On the back or side of your TV, you should see an “Audio Out” or similar section with at least one of the following types of audio output:
Maximize your total power by directing midrange and treble frequencies to the top boxes and low end to the subwoofers. This means that your system will be louder at the same power output, or that your maximum output power will be the same as a larger system’s.
It’s actually really simple, except for the one wire into the head unit wiring harness power line. Sorry I can’t be more help with that. Gave me a wake up call on just how dirty my engine bay is: Gonna try and get that washed and cleaned this weekend. If you have any more questions, feel free to post it or PM me. Thanks man Im2Fast4U , I’m pretty positive I didn’t have to buy anything other than the components and wiring kit.
Give me a few minutes and I’ll run out and pull the panels off my center console and see what I can find. What kind of head unit do you have?

Next Audiophiles know that a stereo is not complete until you’ve added a subwoofer to your system. The subwoofer is a speaker specifically designed to give precise sound to low frequency audio, such as the bass [source: Whether in your car or your home theatre, a subwoofer is a must for a true and complete audio experience. Read the steps listed below and learn about how to connect a subwoofer to an amplifier.
Turn the amplifier and the subwoofer so the backs are facing you. You will be able to clearly and accurately see the labels on top of the outputs and plugs.
Some powered subwoofers also offer a delay setting to compensate for receivers/processors that don’t. Speaker Level Using an SPL meter set to c-weighted slow response, place the unit point up at the ceiling at the appropriate ear height and location for the main listening seat.
Furthermore, there is a schematic instructing the connection of front speakers from your receiver into the back of the subwoofer left and right “inputs” and then back to the front speaker from the subwoofers left and right “outputs”. Have I just reduced my receiver’s output by doing this? If there are no line level inputs, only speaker level inputs, then you have no choice but to connect that way. Note that Polk had an article on their site recommending the speaker level hookup as per your schematic over the line level hookup, but that article is way out of date and their reasoning no longer applies their reasoning was that receivers had a fixed xover and you get more flexibility using the xover in the sub.
Using the speaker level connections, you are not reducing your receiver’s power. The 50w rating for the sub is the amount of power it has to amplify the low frequencies. The xover setting on the sub determines which frequencies it keeps for itself. The outputs to the main speakers will be relatively – it may have a fixed high pass filter untouched.
The signal from the receiver is already amplified if you use speaker level connections.

I own two 18″ powered subs and two 18″ passive subs, but I was looking for something smaller and more portable to compliment my JBL EON P portable powered pa system that I use for smaller family or friends gatherings, and what a huge difference, the PA S gave my system the bottom end that it was missing and really brought it to life.
I will definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for adding lows to a set up, now keep in mind that this is a 12″ sub so do not, and I repeat do not expect it to perform like a VS got the job done Got this to add low end to my watt PA. It did get the job done. It made my small Pa sound more full. Read complete review Got this to add low end to my watt PA.
